What is a direct cremation?

With a direct cremation the cremation is unattended by anyone other than the funeral director and their team.  This means that any celebration of life, memorial service or funeral service can be arranged at a time to suit everyone who wishes to be involved.   The unattended cremation usually takes place within two or three weeks and the ashes can be delivered back to you shortly afterwards. Direct cremations have been growing in popularity since the large TV campaigns run by national companies.  Its growth is partly due to people look for a more affordable and modern way of making funeral arrangements.

How to arrange a direct cremation

We want to make this difficult time as easy for you as possible. We will carry out your wishes, keeping you fully informed every step of the way. 

In our experience, when families choose a large national provider, they are dealing with remote salespeople online or, at best, by phone. For us it is important to give you the option of being able to sit in your own home having a face-to-face meeting with a genuinely local professional.  We will spend as long with you, as you need, to ensure, what is an very upsetting process is as gentle as possible.   

What if I want to attend cremation service.

We also recognise that for some people the cost of cremation service from an online provider can be appealing due to price.  We there for offer an attended, family led, Cremation Service at a local crematorium for £1,995. 

This service will be at a time when the crematorium offers a reduced price.  You can choose an alternative time for an additional cost.  This will be a full-length service in the chapel with a ceremony and no limit on attendees.  Once again it will involve a face-to-face meeting to arrange the cremation service, we can also advise you with finding a minister or celebrant if you wish not to have a family led ceremony.  Unlike the online providers there will be a funeral director on the day and a hearse to convey the coffin direct to the crematorium from the funeral home. Shortly after the funeral we will return the ashes to you or you are welcome to collect them yourself from the crematorium. 

Just like the online providers we do not include viewing of the deceased, a cortege leaving the home, the options for limousines, collection of donations, and arranging announcements or service sheets.
